Note on Husband: Edward Evan Roberts

Roberts, Edward Evan, Surgeon, M.B., C.M., (Edin.), Cambridge, Dr. Roberts was born at Manchester, England, in 1863, and is the third son of the Rev. R. J. Roberts, of the Welsh Church. He was educated at Dumfries, Scotland, received his medical training at the University of Edinburgh, and afterwards became assistant to his brother, Dr. J. B. Roberts, of Nottingham. In 1891 he arrived in Auckland, and commenced practice at the North Shore, where he became surgeon to the local Court of Foresters, and honorary surgeon to the Devonport Naval Volunteers. As a disciple of the association game of football, Dr. Roberts represented the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and played for Auckland at the interprovincial tournament, held at Auckland, in 1895. He was also selected for the carnival of 1896, but, owing to his professional engagements, he was unable to proceed to Dunedin. Dr. Roberts, for reasons of health, removed to Cambridge in 1900, and established his present practice. He was married, in 1890, to a daughter of Mr. H. Atfield, of Shrewsbury, England.
